About us

The vision of the Estonian Hydrogen Cluster is that:

• by 2050, Estonia will have achieved climate neutrality, with hydrogen-based solutions playing an important role in the energy sector;

• Estonia will be a prominent player in Europe in the development, advancement and implementation of innovative hydrogen solutions;

• the hydrogen economy will have become an economically viable business sector in Estonia and part of everyday life, no longer requiring subsidies for its operation and growth.

The activities of the Estonian Hydrogen Cluster include collecting and sharing information related to hydrogen production and application, raising awareness, engaging and supporting the public and private sectors, researchers and society as a whole, networking in Estonia and abroad, including supporting Estonian hydrogen solutions in joining European and global value chains, and supporting the development of the innovation ecosystem. More specifically:

• General awareness-raising and information sharing. The role of the Cluster is to provide public and impartial information about hydrogen-related opportunities in Estonia, and to support and contribute to discussions on topics related to the use and development of hydrogen technologies.

This activity includes, for example, mapping the interests of stakeholders, organising information exchange and events, establishing contacts, and other related activities.

• Contributing to research and development projects. The Hydrogen Cluster acts as a centre for information exchange and supports the planning and development of hydrogen projects.

• Supporting the development of competences and training. The Cluster maps Estonia’s needs for sector-specific specialists and helps develop plans for creating and bringing relevant competences to Estonia.

• Increasing visibility. The Cluster attracts wider attention from Estonia and abroad, helps identify best practices and consolidate experience. The Cluster contributes to the preparation of hydrogen strategies or roadmaps and supports the implementation of related activities.

• Business development. The Hydrogen Cluster supports the creation of new business models by bringing together knowledge and financial resources, and by supporting Estonian hydrogen technology companies in joining European and global value chains.

• Supporting regional development. The adoption of hydrogen technologies supports development in related sectors, such as smart cities, green technologies and green energy, among others.

• Promoting job creation. The adoption of hydrogen technologies creates a basis for the emergence of new high value-added jobs.

• Encouraging open dialogue. We see that Estonia has public sector interest, academic knowledge and business interest in adopting hydrogen-based energy solutions. The Cluster works to engage society in order to mitigate potential opposition that may arise from the adoption of new technologies.

• Developing partnership with the state. As an organisation that brings together its members and understands their plans, expectations and opportunities, the Cluster is a strong partner for the state in creating a hydrogen strategy and in planning and implementing related activities.

In order to implement the ideas, vision and activities outlined above, it is necessary to create the conditions for launching the hydrogen economy in Estonia. This requires the simultaneous development of both green hydrogen production and consumption, as well as the creation of regional integrated solutions. An important task of the Cluster is also to coordinate regional activities in order to launch a nationwide hydrogen economy in Estonia.

All companies, institutions and organisations interested in the application and research of hydrogen technologies are welcome to join the Cluster. The organisational partner of the Cluster is SA Inicio.
